ZTE to Supply Mobile Backhaul GPON for Telkom

ZTE Corporation has completed a GPON-based mobile backhaul network, the first large scale commercial in the world for PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia.

The project is claimed to be the first large scale commercial projects for technology GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networking) backhaul and mobile network platforms based on ZTE.

With strong growth in broadband demand in Indonesia in recent years, Telkom is deemed necessary to meet the needs of traditional voice services and a wide range of broadband services like high-speed internet, IPTV and online gaming, and considering the integration of fixed network and mobile networks to meet bandwidth growth in future.

According to Point-Topic World report Broadband quarter of 2009, broadband penetration rates in Southeast Asian markets of less than 10%, but growth in the broadband market is the fastest sector, achieving an increase of 6.32% per quarter.
