President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Inaugurates the Construction of Palapa Ring

Palapa Ring - Susilo Bambang YudhoyonoPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated the beginning of construction of Palapa Ring for the southern sector of Eastern Indonesia physical development of fiber optic deployment program that connects Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, to Kupang, NTT.

Inauguration conducted at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (30/11), characterized by long-distance video conference between the President, and Minister of Communication and Information Tifatul Sembiring, and the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) M. Zainul Majdi. Construction of Palapa Ring for southern sector Eastern Indonesia fully financed by PT Telkom and expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.

The path traveled by the sector is Mataram-nae Kawinda along 292.3 miles, nae-Raba Kawinda along 142.5 miles, Raba-Waingapu along 307.5 miles, Waingapu-Ende along 210.1 kilometers, and Ende-Kupang along 285.4 miles.

Palapa Ring is a program of development of national optical fiber network that will reach the provincial capital 33 and 440 cities / regencies throughout Indonesia. The network will become the foundation of all telecommunications providers and users of telecommunications services that require data transfer in high speed or broadband.
